| The Dardanelles is a narrow strait in north-western Turkey connecting the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara. It is 61km long but only 1.2 to 6km wide. For such a small portion of water it is enveloped in historical importance. Cork band the Dardanelles released their debut e.p. "Coming Up For Air" in June of 2006. A limited run of 300 cds were printed, sold, and distributed to the press. Previous to this the Dardanelles made their way supporting acts as such as Jerry Fish, Autamata and Hothouse Flowers amongst many others. Not the worst of beginnings you might say. The current line-up have been together only 12 months and have already started to gather a loyal following in their home city. Numerous highlights include an e.p. launch and headline shows in Cyprus Avenue, Rock For Jocker, Live In Lisgoold and the Alanna Appeal fundraiser. Now the Dardanelles are preparing to enter the studio to record a new 5 track release, due early in the new year. "...an arresting opening line and possesses the soaring energy and endearing naivety of early U2"- Don O' Mahoney, Evening Echo. (on e.p. track "The Best of Emily Dickinson") |
